Scales of Justice
The scales of justice are rather complex in this modern age.
Here we present a series of puzzles, each with a set of weights that you must bring into balance. In each puzzle, each pivot must be balanced by putting the same force on either side. The force generated by a weight is the value of the weight times the distance to the pivot.
(See the small scale for an example.) Once you have determined which weight goes in each red pan, look around on this page for a way to convert each numeric weight value to a single letter. These letters will go together to form your keyword.
Zack Butler is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at RIT. His teaching and research interests are in the areas of artificial intelligence, robotics, and cooperative systems. As a puzzler, he is both a creator and a competitive solver, and will be a part of the U.S. team at the World Puzzle Championship for the 13th time this November.
