Horses on Parade
September 11, 2009 - 2:50pm
One of the puzzles will be to photograph the horses that were first on display in Rochester in 2001's Horses on Parade. This is according to an article at the D&C site.
I just thought I'd get things started a bit early and post two links related to the Horses. Note: the second link is where the horses initially were, I don't believe most of them are still there, but I'm not sure.

That would be me :)
Yes, we created a map, and the map will continue to be available through Bing maps, as well as through this site (it's part of the page describing the challenge).
We're not asking you to find the horses; we're asking you to pick one and take enough pictures of it to create a Photosynth image. We'll then judge the resulting Photosynths, and the winners will receive a Kodak digital picture frame as well as two tickets to the gala party.

Cool, but what about us Mac users? I can LOOK at photosynth images using a browser addon for Silverlight, but there does not appear to be any way to create the images without using bootcamp or vmware (and purchasing Windows!)

Well I guess you have to find someone who has a Windows computer.
What about people who don't have cell phones? They can't do the scavenger hunt.
What about people without cameras? They can't do the photosynth.
Each puzzle has the possibility to be difficult to complete. You just will need to borrow things (a computer with windows, a cell phone, a camera).
Thems the breaks, I guess. ;)

Is there a deadline to submit the photosynths by?
Couldn't find one listed, but I assume it has to be done by the end of the week (next Saturday), and then a new challenge is next week?

It's been said that if you do not have access to a machine running Windows, that Professor Lawley will open her classroom on Wednesday from 6 until 8 for you to utilize.

The Photosynth URLs need to be submitted by Thursday night at 8pm, so that we have time to judge them before end of the week.
And yes, if you don't have access to a computer running windows to create the Photosynth, you can bring your photos to the RIT innovation center on Wednesday night from 6-8pm we'll have students there to help turn your collection into a finished Photosynth.

Is it possible that some of the horses aren't listed? I was heading to Rochester School for the Deaf today and wanted to kill two birds with one stone, taking the pictures of the one there.
I just wasn't sure if there are only specific horses that are sanctioned by PTI to photosynth.
(Also, the one at Heritage Christian Stables has the painted finish stripped off in a large part of it.)

Liz Lawley has created an updated map at http://tinyurl.com/mk94jd , supposedly current up to Aug 2009. Since Prof. Lawley is one of the PTI organizers, you may want to copy the information in case they decide to take it down...
