
Week 6 Crossword

We got the key word for the week 6 crossword, but remain puzzled by something odd. Two of the answers -- 31 Down and 26 Down -- both seem to be missing the same two letters. Is this significant? And if so, how?

I saw the link and password elsewhere but wasn't keen on registering for yet another site. I don't see what's wrong the forums, especially since they provide an archive, versus the extemporaneous nature of a chat room.

I was hesitant to sing up for another site as well, but the chat room (which does keep an easily accessible archive btw)is in real time, and much more conducive to group collaboration than the forums...

The chat room comes in handy when more synchronous discussion is needed (like when you're racing to solve the puzzle). It's meant to enhance the communication on the forums, not replace it. Hopefully, next year we'll all be on Google Wave, where chat, forum messages and collaborative editing (and problem solving) can all be unified...

It still seems like the forum would be better for people coming in looking for answers, so the chat folks don't have to keep repeating the same things over and over.
So did you guys come up with any explanation for the missing letters? Is it part of another puzzle?

Well, according to a couple of NY Times crossword players, including more than one letter in a box has been going on for awhile. The letters aren't missing, they just need to be squeezed into the boxes.
