Clue from tbauer's "About tomorrow" news/update.
September 19, 2009 - 6:14pm
There is a clue at the end of the most recent update that tbauer posted to the News & Updates forum:
* We would turn on the lights, but our developers like to work in the dark. Happy Easter.
Hmmmm... It might have to do with the newspaper puzzles (as they are part of the announcement), but I'm not so sure. Feel free to share theories... :-)

I was thinking along the same lines as dc... but that narrows it down to a thousand possibilities instead of a million...

Hello World is the first program that a software developer writes when learning a new programming language. I'm sure that this is a second clue for the easter egg, not sure how yet. Maybe we need to be looking for dark windows?

Foster,
I think this may be a new, 3rd egg. Having got the Broad St egg, I don't see how this clue could apply to that egg.

It MAY be for that Egg... being in the Window and all ;)

It is in a post titled "About Tomorrow", so I wonder if there is a third puzzle in the paper or maybe a puzzle within a puzzle?
Or possible another event for tomorrow?

I did a quick look through the paper more thoroughly, but I don't see any obvious references, except for the ad on page 5C featuring the Kodak printer that's a prize for the recipe run. There was a tiny code in the corner of that ad, but it's only the other ads so I figured it had to do with the D&C's ad tracking solution. Tried entering it into the code box here and it didn't work. :-)
All that said, I might be missing something elsewhere in the paper.

Per twitter, there are no hidden clues along the Coffee Crawl

I SO thought I found the answer, but typing it in proved it wasn't correct. :(
OR I have a typo or missed more.

I'm pretty sure the "our developers like to work in the dark" is a just clue for the "Hello World" puzzle. People have been asking about whether you need daylight to see the code. I think tbauer was just pointing out that developers like to work in dark cave-like spaces, and that's where the code is posted. Thus they can't turn on the lights to make the code visible at night. The connection between "Hello world" and developers is clear too.

Given that I haven't seen ANYONE with a third easter egg achievement, and I can kind of make a connection between the two clues, I tend to agree with you.

Well. I suppose it could be. My reasoning was why would they need to add a new clue for something that people were already figuring out?
There will be more Easter Eggs and someone has to be the first to figure them out... :-)
So, everything is a little suspicious.

Well, here is my thinking on this one. I can think of two kinds of developers that might be associated with the game.
There are software developers, some of whom develop game software, but most of them don't like working in the dark, plus the first easter egg seemed to be targeted to gamer types, so I've kind of ruled this angle out.
There are also film developers, who definitely need to work in the dark. This is the idea I've been pursuing. There's obviously the Kodak angle, but I haven't come up with anything that works there. RIT has a film school, but I haven't found any clues snooping around on their web site. And there is Community Darkroom, which also fits into the arts & crafts and neighborhood themes of the game. However searching Community Darkroom's web site hasn't yielded any clues, nor has examining the exterior of their building.
I hope that these ideas might trigger some additional thoughts about this, if indeed there is a 3rd easter egg associated with "our developers like to work in the dark."

Foster Family... interesting angle... When you develop film or prints you need to work in the dark, therefor you can't turn on the lights.

Really interesting angle!! Makes a lot of sense. Maybe a gallery?

Hmmm. "A developer working in the dark", might have something to do with a certain major sponsor of the game... Still thinking it through.
