ID for Gala?
October 30, 2009 - 11:51am
Just wondering what sort of ID I need to bring to the gala. I know it says driver's license, but that's just for checking age, right? My RIT ID has my name and picture on it, but no date of birth. I just turned 20, and I'm not going to make it any secret that I'm underage. I don't drink, and I've always believed that I don't need alcohol to have a good time. So is it acceptable for me to bring my student ID, and just let them know at the door that I'm underage, or should I still bring my driver's license?

hmm, the name that was printed on my tickets is not the name I submitted as 'My name as it appears on my photo ID.' My tickets don't match my photo ID.
Because I have a first initial before my first name and a last name for a first name, it looks confusing on my photo ID, but the DMV says that's the way it has to be. That's why I added a (last name first) note to the 'My name as it appears' title. People can't tell which is which from the ID.
This mismatch is probably moot since I'm likely to respect the several posts I saw saying staff would prefer that players not go to the gala due to PTI budget concerns -- even though I'm curious to see how many people I knew without knowing and my husband, a casual player and general eschewer of parties, is willing to attend for the same reason.
But it looks as though I'd be refused entrance anyway due to my tickets not matching my ID.

My name was printer very wrong on my ticket and I'm sure I did not submit it that way. It is Nussmann not Nussbaum.
How does this corrected

I think -- unless the good people in charge say otherwise -- little issues like are probably not a super big deal. I don't know, I'm not official, but I think the "we need to see ID" is because the college is inviting complete strangers to mingle among their students, and they want some sort of security in place. You know, to keep the axe murderers and general public rabble at bay. Essentially, human eyes will look at your ticket and say "Ah, yes, ok, we see that's you. Very good, and welcome."
In other words -- and again, I am not an authority on the subject here, but -- I wouldn't worry about it *too* much.

First, *please* come to gala! I didn't mean to discourage anyone from attending...just from passing tickets on to people who hadn't won. At this point we're in very good shape in terms of attendance, and there's no reason for anyone who wants to go to stay home.
Second, if your name is wrong on your ticket, it's human error (mine); I'm typing them all in to the Eventbrite system, and sometimes I get them wrong. :)
You can contact me directly to have me issue you a new ticket with the correct name, but if the name is even close you shouldn't have any problem getting in.

We need a photo id to verify you're the person on the ticket. It only needs to show your age if you want the wristband showing that you're 21 or over and would like to order alcohol.
So your student ID will be fine.
