SCVNGR - out of sequence messages - idiosyncrasy or issue with Coffee Crawl?
September 24, 2009 - 12:28pm
Didn't do the first scavenger hunt, so the coffee crawl was my first. I was confused by the seemingly out of sequence text messages. Is this a SCVNGR "feature", something with just how the coffee crawl was set-up, or a carrier/network issue?
Example:
msg: Take a picture of your group in front of xxxx.
rply: DONE
msg: Your next stop is yyyy. It is called _____.
msg: That's correct, well done. Your next message will arrive shortly.
[huh??? I haven't sent in the code yet...]
rply: CODEWORD
msg: Take a picture...
It seems like the message confirming that "DONE" was correct comes out of sequence.

Hi All,
That only happens if the phone carrier (AT&T, Verizon, etc.) delays one of the messages. The scvngr system does build in a delay to mitigate that issue in 99% of cases, so it probably won't happen to most people. It also shouldn't happen with any consistency, unless you have poor reception.
If you ever get mixed up you can always type in "REPEAT" to see the question you're currently on.
I hope that helps!

Did the week 3 scavenger hunt today with others and my texts were definitely having a much longer lag time than others. Must be my carrier -- Sprint.

I think it's Sprint, I do my scavenger hunts with two other people, and there is a definite, noticeable lag between when they receive a text and when I receive the same text.

i did get one like that, which told me I was at the end of east end after the second high falls stop.
