Just as a note if there are any future challenges that require buying things. You guys should probably give them some advanced notice that a large number of people are going to probably buy their product. I went to all of the places at the market today and most of the people running the booths were not very happy that they were not informed about this.

The guy at Stuart Spices was kind of excited... but that was at 6:30am, and when we bought ours, he only had 2 left at that point... He had no idea he was part of the game and wanted to know why some earlier customers had asked him for a secret code...

I made it to the market around 11 and couldn't find anything for a while. Couldn't find the pizza crust or honey anywhere though I spent at least an hour looking. Did find the pepper blend (and got two free samples which are acting as excellent air fresheners in my dorm room) but Larry's was out of their habanero cheese and they did seem a little annoyed at this whole "contest thing."

To be honest, we didn't expect as big a response as we got on this challenge. Next time we'll know better!

I was at the market at 1pm, and Davis Honey had plenty of honey available. (They're inside the building where the fish and meat sellers are.)

The market is open on Tuesday and Thursday morning, as well, but many of the shops aren't open on Tuesday, so I'd suggest returning Thursday morning if you plan on going back.

So, if your plan was to go to the market tomorrow morning, would you say it probably would be a waste of your time? Would the time be better spent visiting coffee shops? :-)

Chris,

the market is only open Sat, Tues and Thurs, so going tomorrow would definitely be a waste of time because the vendors won't be there!

My mistake then... I thought the vendors were there on the Sundays that there were special events taking place, and tomorrow is listed as "Artist's Row at the Market"

Normally what they do is rent the stalls out to different vendors for special events. Sometimes some of the same vendors are there, but not many of them. For example, in May and June they do "Flower City Days" on sundays. For that event, there is some crossover of Saturday vendors who are selling plants and such, but not a ton. I would think Tues or Thurs would be a safer bet.

I'm glad to have the information now regarding "different vendors". I too thought that during special events the Saturday vendors were their on Sunday. I guess I never paid close attention to who the vendors were. Thanks so much for sharing that information and saving me a trip.

Yes I know what you mean about the huge run on Recip Run ingredients at the Public Market today. I made it a point to set my alarm and head out early for that very reason. Now I don't know what Ingredients you ended up getting today but I did make it a point to ask Larry's cheese if they are there at the market on Tuesday & Thursdays. They are there Thursdays and the owner is there early-like 6 am. so you could do a cheese run before you head to work or something. And DiPaulos has their main store at 598 N. Plymouth Ave 14608 (232-3510) Call them to find out their hours maybe you can swing by to pick up some pizza dough during the week. I did not ask them if they were there at the market on Tuesdays or Thursdays, however. :( I ended up buying the frozen ball of crust vs. the already-made crust since I still don't know what I will prepare at this point.

Also Stuarts has a location at 2322 Lyell Ave
Rochester, NY 14606-5737 (585) 436-9329

Hope this helps!

If you still want the Habanero Cheddar from Larry's Cheese, he is from Buffalo and will be back at the Public Market on Thursday from 6:30am - 1:30pm. His phone number is 716-695-8073. He said he has 300# of the habanero cheddar in his Buffalo warehouse. If he had known about the hunt he would have brought more than his ussual 20# with him today.

DiPaolo Bakery has plenty of pizza crust in their store on Plymouth Ave. Just stop in.

Davis Honey still had plenty of honey when we went though around 2pm. His store is in Cayuga, but I believe he will be back in the Market during this week.

Stuart Spices is located at 2322 Lyell Ave. We enjoyed chatting with him about the differences between fresh ground and what you get in the grocery store.

As we were leaving the market I heard Foodlink mentioned as part of tommorrow's events. Anyone know anything about this?

We had originally planned to have people bring in their recipes on Sunday night, and then announce the winners at the Festival of Food on Monday night. However, we decided that didn't give people enough time to shop for the ingredients and to cook their dishes, so we moved the dish drop-off to Thursday night. As a result, we won't be making the announcement at the festival of food.

Foodlink is involved every week, of course, because they're one of the three charities benefiting from players' involvement :) The better the Forge does each week, the more money Foodlink receives!

The Democrat & Chronicle will have a booth at the Festival of Food Monday night, and will have information cards on Picture the Impossible to give out to people who don't already know about the game. (No hidden achievements there, though--while buying a ticket would help Foodlink, we don't want to require that for success in the game...)

Who knew honey would be in with the meat and fish!? Not me. I didn't bother looking for it there. I got my cheese so it's all good.
