Yearly Google Puzzle Challenge
October 30, 2009 - 3:19pm
Not sure if people have mentioned this before, but for those that really enjoyed Zack Butler's puzzles, you'll also like the yearly World Puzzle Championship. Zack has actually won it in the past. It's a 2.5 hour text. You download a passowrd protected PDF the night before, and at the start time, you go online and find the password to open the PDF. You then submit the answers via a simple online form. About a week later, they post the scores.
It's quite challenging and they don't ever plan on anyone doign all the puzzles, so you just do the ones that you enjoy most.
For all the past challenges, go to the bottom of the history section here:

That's strange. How do they prevent people fFrom simply breaking into the PDF? PDF passwords aren't that hard to crack, really.

And if you like crossword puzzles in particular, there's the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament (http://www.crosswordtournament.com), held in Brooklyn every year. Puzzles can also be solved on-line, though not for prizes.
Zack's been pretty competitive there as well...
