Downtown Safety
October 25, 2009 - 6:22pm
Don't worry that much about safety downtown - today the Forge demonstrated just how easy it is to attract police attention!

Apparently someone called. Now THAT's a neighborhood watch! We did get their "call card of the day" achievement but no points were involved. Apparently the incident report will include a "Gladiator with a Treasure Box." :)

We told 'em about PTI of course and they agreed to pose for a picture at the final. They seemed to enjoy the concept!
Knew we weren't in too much trouble when the first on scene got out of the car and said "I just HAVE to ask...." :)

Any activity which results in the local constabulary paying you a visit is much cooler than anything else you could be doing.

We asked the officer in shilfiell's photo if he'd mind posing with us for a picture. He said, "Sure, but you might want to wait a bit. Two more cars are coming."
Sure enough, two more patrol cars arrived, lights flashing. They all laughed when they saw us.
The scavenger hunt ends at 8 p.m. tonight (Sunday).

I am *flabbergasted* that they thought people in costume on a Sunday afternoon were grounds for sending *three* patrol cars. :O

Was he BRANDISHING the sword or something?

No brandishing involved - sword was safely tucked away the whole time. We got flashy lights, too!
The teams after us were just a bit hesitant about proceeding, I think :)

Well, if I looked out the window and saw someone wandering my street with a sword, I might call the cops, but not if they're dressed like a gladiator and roaming peacefully with a group. Then again, a large white group being led by one with a sword might scare someone in a predominantly black neighborhood. Social Justice, we've come a long way, but we haven't come far enough.

Nah, the sword really wasn't even evident - it tucked into the shield quite nicely. I don't think we were reported for looking threatening, but I can certainly understand being reported for looking odd! Can't blame the neighbors at all, and the policemen were all wonderful good sports. Happy endings!

I actually live in the area... there are SO many Neighborhood watches you would be AMAZED!
The cops RARELY respond to anything with only 1 car too...
The cops in this area... Fantastic! I know many of them from their patrols... and they know the people in the neighborhood... and um yeah.. you were defiantly "out of place" lol although VERY welcome ;)
