Another Gala Question
October 10, 2009 - 1:31pm
Is the gala intended to be family friendly or is there an age minimum for attendance?
October 10, 2009 - 1:41pm

The email said formal or semi formal dress and mask. No costumes.

Wow and some of us would've been coming from the TCW's wine tour dressed in costume-Yikes!

"The party will be a masked ball, and invitees are asked to dress in formal or semi-formal clothing, and bring a mask of their choice with them. Masks should not be put on until after presenting tickets and IDs at the door."
per the email that was sent out

You are *absolutely* welcome to wear costumes!
All we ask is that you make sure your face is not covered with a mask or makeup when you check in for the party, because RIT security really wants us to check photo ID and be able to identify you as the person in the ID :)

I fail to see how formal/semiformal and costumes can coincide. Is this a costume party or a formal gala!?

@tazwalker
Most masquerade balls of old were usually very formal events with everyone dressing up in their finest clothes and donning a simple mask. Phantom of the opera would be a good example

My superman costume doesn't fit anymore.
I prefer the formal approach of the olden days.

I'm a college student! Dressing up in "formal" clothing for me would be like using one of those Fisher Price slip 'n' slides overflowing with hydrofluoric acid. As for my finest clothes, those would probably be my RIT Hockey jersey and a pair of jeans. I had a pretty sweet idea for what to wear for this gala, but maybe those plans just got dashed. If I have to go "formal" or "semiformal," it probably wouldn't be everyone's else's definition of the terms, but I could probably scrounge up something...

@ tazwalker
that had to be the funniest analogy I've heard in a long time. However, hydrofluoric acid would eat through the plastic, unless you teflon coated it.

I realized this as well, but decided not to overthink it so as to kill the analogy. :D

That's great Taz hahaha. You don't have a suit from the career fair or anything?
October 11, 2009 - 9:52am
#14
I didn't have to go to career fair. My major doesn't do co-ops. And there's so few of us and we're in such high demand that there's a 100% placement rate after graduation. I applied to ITT for the summer, though.

You received emails on the gala? I didn't. This implies the list of top 150 point-earners is a done deal - in Week 5. And/or that those of us who didn't or won't make the top 150 can either purchase tickets now or get on an emailing list for ticket purchase (if so, please tell us how you did it). Or are you email recipients merely those who won free gala tickets as a prize?
October 11, 2009 - 9:30pm

No one has received emails about the gala, its all in the news and updates and is general information. The leaderboard changes daily and you cannot predict anything with this game, so don't make assumptions just yet, lol. Micci

You guys didn't receive a Picture the Impossible email from D&C on Oct. 9th?

Are you signed up for emails on the scp site?

Are we talking about two SEPARATE things? Most of us got the emails about the SCP security issues that was sent by the D&C. But I don't think anyone has gotten any emails about the gala? I haven't. Micci

Micci,
Every week on Friday, at 8:00 pm, there is an e-mail from the D&C about PTI. This week's e-mail had a number of sections in it including this:
The Halloween Gala
We're finalizing details for the gala party, and wanted to clear up any confusion about tickets.
With the exception of this week's winners, who will receive individual tickets, all weekly challenge winners will receive one pair of tickets to the gala. The top 150 players in the leaderboard will also receive a pair of tickets. Because we are honoring the winners at this party, and offer the second ticket only so that winners can bring a date or a family member, players who win more than one challenge, or who win a challenge as well as reaching the top 150 scorers, will still receive only one pair of tickets. Winners will be contacted at the email address they provided when registering, and will be asked to give their full name and preferred email address for receiving tickets; the tickets, bearing the winner's name, will then be emailed to the winner from the Eventbrite system. Tickets are non-transferable, and the person named on the ticket must be present when the tickets are presented at the door.
The party will be a masked ball, and invitees are asked to dress in formal or semi-formal clothing, and bring a mask of their choice with them. Masks should not be put on until after presenting tickets and IDs at the door.
We will have refreshments at the party--desserts, fruit, and coffee & tea--as well as a full cash bar. We will also have live musical entertainment.
I'm sure you received this e-mail.
As for why some folks act like they are already invited... it's because they were winners of some of the weekly challenges -- and part of their prize package were 2 tickets to the gala.
Hope this helps.

Taz - one word of advice if you choose to go the formal/semi-formalwear route: Goodwill.

Good call. Still not liking the idea of dressing up, though. Why masks!? Aren't we supposed to be finally meeting the people we've been playing the game with!? I'm not gonna go up to someone and be like... uh... who the heck are you!? I was all set to go at the beginning. Now I'm on the fence. The food might be the deciding factor...

Taz, In a typical masqued ball, there is an unmasking so that everyone can see who everyone else is, this is the mystery and fun part of it. I got my costume today and it will do triple duty, For Halloween, the gala, if I get to go and for the Ren Faire next summer. So for the amount of money I spent, I got alot. I have a Halloween party on the 24th as well. Looks like quite a few of the PTI Gamers will go in costume if they get tickets. Micci

Another Question: My guest and I might not arrive at the same time, depending on schedules. Will that cause a problem for them to get in?
October 13, 2009 - 8:16pm
#26
@jfilion I think they have to be with you. This is what it says on the email that came with my ticket (that i got for winning a challenge):
Thank you for picturing the impossible with us! The tickets will have your name on them, and they are non-transferable. Your guest (if you decide to bring one) must accompany you, and ID must be shown upon entry that matches the name on your ticket.

EmDeeEm is correct; your guest must arrive with you.

Yes, I am glad that is will be a formal/semi-formal event. My wife and I have been torturing ourselves these past 6 weeks and are looking forward to a night out without the little ones. We would not enjoy getting dressed up in decent clothes with other adults and having to be at the same event with people 'dressed-up' as: whoopie cushions, pregnant nuns or naughty nurses(well maybe them), but you get my point. Let's keep it fancy.

Fancy and formal, with a mask....sweet! :)

I have a question too, Is anyone going to be in Costume? It is Halloween After all? I had originally thought it was, glad I read EVERY ITEM on here, Boy would that be a moment!!! LOL Micci
