Motivating Forge and Watch... changing the criteria to win a week?
October 3, 2009 - 10:02pm
I'm loving the game, but one thing isn't working for me:
Week 1 winner: Tree
Week 2 winner: Tree
Week 3 winner: Tree
...
Week 7 winner: Tree
I've read the "you can do it" posts, but they just don't gibe with the reality of the number of players on each team (more playing for Tree) and the participation of the "highly motivated" players by the various factions.
So... how about this suggestion? Set a target goal of points for each week for each team. If your team passes this goal for the week, then your charity "wins". Sure, the poor Tree might have to make due with sharing some of the donations -- but it would give the poor Watch and Forge something to shoot for besides the neck and neck battle for second place.

Actually, each charity gets a donation every week; even if a particular faction comes in last every week, their charity would still end up with nearly $3,000 in donations by the end of the game.
Given the number of players involved, even though the Tree currently has an edge it wouldn't take all that much recruiting on the parts of the Watch and/or the Forge to win a week--especially if the new people you recruit do many of the past week's web games (something that even a non-local participant could do).
We're also going to sweeten the pot considerably in week 7, because of an additional donation that we received from the Rochester Area Community Foundation.

Mamamusings,
Are you accepting donations from players? I am having a blast with this game and would love to contribute to a "jackpot" for the week seven charity winner. I'll bet a lot of other players would contribute too if something was set up.

I am willing to contribute to the week 7 charity LOSER. Let me know.

Another possibility for fairness is percentage of possible points earned by each faction. So if we've earned 900 out of a possible 1000 points, that's a 90%. That way it is independent of the number of people in each faction.

I support the Tree because of personal reasons in my past.
The others are also great organizations.
I play for the fun of the game and would do so even if there was no charity involved.
How about giving the biggest money some weeks to the one that had the lowest points.
Do you think the Trees would hold back just to win the money. LOL.
