I looked on the Extended Leaderboard to see who's right around that 150 mark...quite a few Forge people hovering right near the Invite/No Invite line! You folks still have a great chance to get to the Gala, but I'd work like crazy tonight getting all forty-seven, er, I mean, three codes we got today and you might want to consider either staying up late or waking up early to do Maptitude between Midnight and 8:00 AM, when the cutoff for points towards Gala invites arrives.
Last push! Individual points cut off (as far as significance) in 12.5 hours and then after that, it's all just working for the team and the glory!

i absolutely hate the slide tiles, and have manged to do only 1 easy one, and attempted the others...with no success :(
Will try to make it to the 150 cutoff, lets see!

Slide tiles were bad for me at the start but now I'm getting good at 'em...a sure sign that the game's about to end. I'll have lost my skills by the next time around. Fortunately, working in square sectors does the trick for me for now.

oh madengineer, I wish there was more time! I could show you - it's easier to see it than to read directions about it.
For slide tiles, I use a systematic process to paint myself into a corner, the corner being the blank square in the lower right corner. ... which is where the blank square is supposed to be when you're done.
Sometimes, at the start a puzzle, there may be a couple-three tiles correctly placed in the middle of the puzzle. Ignore them! Do not try to keep them together. It'll drive you nuts to try and won't solve the puzzle.
The solution process starts with placing the first tile, correctly, in the top left corner.
For a rectangular puzzle, like the mediums and hards, the next tile to be placed is the one under that first tile in the top left corner.
Keep placing tiles one under the other until that whole left column is correctly placed - before working on any other part of the puzzle.
Once a column is finished - ignore it, don't move any more tiles in that column. Now you have a smaller puzzle to work with. Smaller is better.
Do as many columns as needed - before doing any rows - until you get a square of jumbled tiles.
Now you can do a column or a row -- let's say you decide to place a row of tiles. That row should be furthest from the lower right corner. Then be sure to do the corresponding column before doing another row.
The idea is to keep working with a square.
I used to avoid these puzzles, but thanks to PTI, I've become adept at solving them quickly.

As for beating the tree, no way... however, we are in a tight race for #2 with the watch.
