Since the Week 5 challenge isn't that time intensive (unlike last week), let's get going on next week's assignment. Don't let the phrase "artistic renderings of a famous person from Rochester's history" scare you off from submitting something for the week 6 challenge.

Artwork encompasses lots of things like - drawing, sketching, painting, decoupage (???), melting crayon bits between wax paper, playdoh sculptures, mosaics, pasting tissue paper bits together, paper mache (???), quilting, knitting, crewel, croquet, quilling (curled paper art forms), stained glass, macaroni art, string art, the one where you punch the thin copper sheet with a pin to make a relief picture, carving, etc...

There are so many different mediums to work with; pens, pencils, pastels, chalk, crayons, markers, water colors, oil paints, acrylic paints, finger paints, food, paper, newspaper, construction paper, cardboard, wood, metal, liquids, sand, rocks, shells, string, pipe cleaners, yarn, thread, dental floss, candle wax, dog hair, recyclables, legos, magnets, leaves, grass clippings, staples, hardware, etc...

Just give it some thought and be imaginative. Pick your subject and have some fun with it. It doesn't need to be a masterpiece, just have fun doing something you never thought you could. You'll be amazed at what you can accomplish when you put your mind to it.

If you need help rendering your artwork into a digital photo, there are a lot of helpful people in the Forge. All you need to do is ask.

Don't forget, though, that there may be additional rules...the Firsts Photo messed me up when they provided a list of acceptable firsts to be used (I wanted to take my picture at the Fish Hatchery, but nooo...no hatchery on the list). They may give us the list of Famous People we can use, or limit the media in some way. The video last week changed from a slideshow in the rules to a regular video in the competition, so things can be mixed up a little bit.

That's true, things might change, but seeing as it is an "artistic rendering" that you have to take a digital photo of to submit, I don't think they can restrict materials that much. I didn't even mention how one could do a computer rendering as well.

I do agree they might limit us on which people are acceptable as subjects. Doesn't mean you can't start experimenting with different materials now doing a self portrait. Figure out how long it takes to do, how easy it is for you to use certain materials, and how big you want to make it.

Yes, indeed, we may well limit your options. :) Feel free to consider options for your media, but don't go too far down a specific path for your image content until you read the challenge text tomorrow night...
