VERSION 3: Additional Achievements (Points) for casual or new(er) players, plus the game "story"
October 10, 2009 - 5:39pm
Version 3: Fixes bad links from prior versions and adds “You’ve got mail” and “1 less than three bees” achievements.
If you are a new or casual player, you may not know that there are addition points to be had which are not accessible via the "this week" tab.
If you are interested in a little bit of extra work, these points can be yours. As an added bonus, you'll see the game's "story" unfolding.
For each item, I'll give you a link to the forum post which I found most helpful. (N.B. Some of these are in the general forum, so before you post there asking for help, ask in this forum!)
N.B. Other items build on this first one, so you really need to get this one before you'll have success for most of the others.
Achievement: Mark of the Searcher: Watchmaker
Description: Keep your eyes open
Points: 25
Forum post which started it all: Just a game?
Forum post in Forge that is probably most helpful: Watchmaker
Achievement: Mark of the Searcher: SCP
Description: Show your commitment to dedication, charity, and unity
Points: 25
Forum post which helped me most (Note: don't ask for hints there because it is in the general forum): Mark of the Searcher: SCP
Achievement: Mark of the Brewer
Description: Have the right chemistry
Points: 25
Forum post which is probably most helpful: Mark of the Brewer
Achievement: Mark of the Searcher: Marquis
Description: Keen eye before the feature presentation
Points: 25
Forum post which is probably most helpful: Mark of the Searcher: Marquis
Achievement: Under Construction
Description: "I've checked my sources about Saturday's paper; that's no misprint"
Points: 225
Forum post which is probably most helpful: Under Construction
There are also a couple of "easter eggs" which are pretty much unrelated to everything else. They are just plain old fun (if you are a puzzle geek...).
Achievement: Uber Geek
Description: You won't need 30 lives for this game
Points: 5
Forum post which is probably most helpful: (N.B. this is a general forum post, so don't ask questions there!) Uber Geek
Then there's a "two-fer":
Achievement: Hello World
Description: Look up from Broad St. countdown.
Points: 15
Achievement: Not a first, but a founder
Description: Rehatch an old egg
Points: 15
There are a bunch of threads on these, but I would go with: Egg two-fer
Two more unrelated achievements have shown up recently. They are not related to any other part of the game.
Achievement: You’ve got mail
Description: Electronic Pony Express
Points: 25
Forum post which is most helpful You’ve got mail
Achievement: 1 less than three bees
Description: A pioneer comes back
Points: 100
Forum post which is most helpful 1 less than 3 bees
Hope this helps the Forge!

Thank you Rochrach for sorting out all the various threads to these achievemanets and posts!!
I have been trying to sort through them for a couple weeks and kept getting so confused about what leads where and what is connected. Decided today to finally get one done - your list helped me decide that Under Construction would make the most sense to spend time on since the points are higher. Thanks also to all who sent posts and hints. So I finally got it Under Construction and some more points for the Forge!! :)
You guys are great. Sorry I can't do the scavenger hunts etc. due to work schedules and family commitments but I hit the other puzzles as hard as I can fitting those in as time permits. All for a great cause. Keep up the good work!!

Thank You gsleader for being here and helping the cause, we do have puzzle meets on the weekend, there will be one at the Lovin Cup at Parkpoint/RIT on Sun at 1 pm to help all those who need to get the crossword puzzle, we also discuss strategy and arrange to do a scavenger hunt for the week, maybe even go right after the meet. You are welcome to join us if you can. Micci

@Rochrach - Thanks for putting all of these in one place.
@everyone - I'm fried. Please help with clues.
I couldn't find the Uber Geek link, although I found a thread called "What the heck is the Uber Geek Achievement and How Can I get One of those?". What "30 lives"? I googled Uber Geek, no help there. Where do we start?
Mark of the Brewer. I read the thread/link, saw the Watchmaker's clue - the chemical is the code - and noticed Shilfiell's thirst. I'm probably overthinking this one as I've worked up from H20 to formulas for flavinoids, to no avail.
RE: Not a first, but a founder: I couldn't find a thread called Egg two-fer. Where do we to start to re-hatch an old egg? What old egg?
Eggs in general and Hello world/Broad Street puzzle in particular - I found two threads - one is Broad Street 'View' and the other is New Easter Egg. How many eggs are we talking about here? Any hints on which end of Broad St. this countdown is closer to?
Thanks.

Delos,
None of these are time sensitive, so why not take a break...
Uber Geek: Try googling the words in quotes in your post.
Hello World and Rehatch an old Egg: Hello World was first, then, at the same location, additional information appeared. This requires physically going somewhere and looking for the clue. (Although I seem to remember that one of the videos from video week had a photo of it... I wouldn't wish going through ALL the videos again on anybody...I still can't get the 3 winning songs out of my mind and every time I looked at the Forge/Tree score this week I heard Mr. Knapp from the tree singing the Darth Vader theme...).

I have pictures for the "Broad St" eggs, but they can easily be blown up to show the messages, so I don't think I should post them. Though it isn't exactly giving away the rehatched egg...
Just think about what business along Broad St is important to the game 'countdown' and go check out the Broad St side.
Strange aside: why do emotes always start with the eyes? :) :o>

*** bump ***
to push this to the top again for any casual players who might stumble on this and be able to earn some points for the Forge this week... it's gonna be a tight race.
